The Brass Band ZUŠ Vimperk

The Brass Band ZUŠ Vimperk was established in 1991 by teacher Petr Staněk. It has links to the long standing tradition of child groups, which performed in Vimperk in the sixties and seventies in the then called People’s arts school.

In 1993 the band started to work with majoretten from the Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk Elementary school in Vimperk. The band also worked with the composers Jiří Rada and Jaroslav Dufek. The band’s first success came after six years, when it won The national competition of Brass Bands Čermákovo Vysoké Mýto in 1997. Since then the band has won the competition six times. The band has also had success in the School of Arts Competition sponsored by MŠMT, where the band came 1st twice in 1998 and 2001, 2nd place in 2004 and 3rd in 2007 in the Central Competition. Since it’s creation in 1991 the band has also performed in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle as winner of Concerto Bohemia Competition in 1998. It was placed in the golden category in several international competitions in Děčín 2001 and Prague 2001 and 2006. In 2003 the band won the International Grand Brass Bands competition Silver category in Ostrava. From foreign competition results is the best success Golden Category from Leszno (Poland).

Every year the Band participates in prestigious parades of brass bands such as Kmochův Kolín, FIJO Cheb and FEDO Štětí. The band also frequently visits foreign countries e.g Germany, Italy, France, Luxembourg, Poland and Austria. Nowadays the band consists of about 70 musicians who‘s average age is about 16.
